Many young couples approaching their nuptials have similar concerns about looking good for the big day, after all the photo’s taken and videos recorded will remain long after the champagne hangover has receded.

My Fiancée is no different and has been looking for a workout that she enjoys and will leave her sleek and toned for our wedding next year. I didn’t want to send her off to some random class in one of the local gyms mainly because in my location the classes seem to go on for a few months and then get swapped out for the next fad.

My own mother, bless her 50+ years (closer to 60) had really enjoyed the kick-boxing workout in the local gym (Bodytrim, Navan) however the class was dropped due to most of the women not liking being pushed hard and the ickyness of sweaty gloves and pads. My Fiancée had considered joining this class so having most of the equipment we decided to try a weekly kick-boxing  workout at home.

It has been several years since I led a workout in it’s entirety and the first one was made up as I went along.

I wanted to warm up slowly to loosen the muscles and stretch out. So I did a basic aerobics warm up, using side steps and v-steps, incorporating upper body movements. I then followed this with a quick stretch.

Then it was time to raise the heart rate a little so some jumping jacks and forward leg variations prior to introducing the basic stance, jab and 1-2.

After getting these moves down and keeping the blood pumping we introduced a further combination of a double lead jab followed by a straight right and a knee and front kick.

(a double jab while stepping forward twice, a straight right into a right knee, double step back and a front kick)

This was varied for a while keeping the blood circulating and then on to the bag, 30 seconds of straight punches as fast as possible with  a 30 second break and repeated 4 times. Then 10 lead left roundhouse kicks to the bag as fast as possible followed by 10 right roundhouse kicks as fast as possible repeated 4 times with a rest as your training partner hits the bag.

From this we then went back to our combinations before doing a standard aerobics cool-down with some abdominal work, including my favorite exercise for training with a partner those cheesy sit-ups with bent legs locked together and you meet together at the top for high fives.

This was a very simple workout and will be modified significantly in the coming weeks. I have written about it here because we both enjoyed it tremendously. I highly recommend any couple to workout together, If your not a fitness instructor then maybe attend a class together, you’ll both feel great (at the same time) and you never know it might lead to further exercise……….

I will be writing up this workout in the near future in a format that could be followed should you feel so inclined, but for know thanks for reading and please feel free to post a comment any feedback is appreciated and should you have any suggestions I would be delighted to read them.
